I was happy to see pictures on Facebook that Ann was back in BiH. Last year I went on a journey with Ann and other social work students to BiH. This journey was one that was one of a few, many life changing events for me. I have pictures and other things I acquired while on my journey that remind me of my trip everyday. Since my trip to BiH was life changing for me, every chance I have, I talk about my journey and what I learned. The responses from others have been a combination of mixed reactions. Most recently I met an individual who left with his family in ’92. This individual has been willing to share his experience of what it was like before and after the siege, and what it was like coming to America as a refugee and now being a citizen. I feel fortunate to continue to learn and listen to the experiences of those who were there, without being in BiH.
I wish all of you who are taking this journey with Ann the best of luck. I hope it is an experience that will be as life changing as it was for me, and one that help expand your views as social workers are carry it with you on your journey to help others. I wait for the day that my journey as a social worker brings me back to BiH.
