You know you aren’t in Colorado when……….

You know you aren’t in Colorado when you hear people saying:

  • “I am going to the Adriatic for the weekend”
  • “Her office used to be across from Karadžić’s and she said he was crazy”
  • “Before the war. . .”
  • “Of course you can drink the water in the rivers”
  • “During the war . . .”
  • “Her father and brother were killed at Srebrenica”
  • “After the war . . .”
  • “How can the water be that turquoise?”
  • “During the Olympics . . .”
  • “Did you hear that Angelina is at the film festival?”
  • “All of the war crimes prosecutors use that taxi driver”
  • “I’ll take you to have the best cevapcici”

And, perhaps one of my all- time favorites was the story that began with:

  • “I was once on a train full of gypsies. . . .”
